Managing Care Tasks

Managing Care Tasks

TilthIQ's Tasks system automatically generates care reminders for every active planting, helping you stay on top of watering, fertilizing, weeding, and pruning schedules throughout the season.

The Tasks Page

Navigate to Tasks from the main navigation. The page is organized into three tabs:

Due and Overdue

All tasks that are due today or past due. Overdue tasks are highlighted in red to draw your attention. This tab should ideally be empty by the end of each day.

Upcoming

Tasks due in the next 7 to 14 days. Use this tab for planning your week — you can see what is coming up and prepare accordingly.

Completed

Tasks you have already marked done, shown in reverse chronological order. This tab provides a full history of care actions taken across your garden.

Task Types

TilthIQ generates four types of care tasks:

Task Description
Watering Reminder to water based on your configured interval
Fertilizing Reminder to apply fertilizer or compost
Weeding Reminder to check for and remove weeds
Pruning Reminder to prune, pinch, or train plants

Each task is linked to a specific planting, so you always know exactly which plant the task applies to.

Marking Tasks Complete

Click the checkmark button next to any task to mark it done. The task moves to the Completed tab and the next occurrence is automatically scheduled based on your configured interval.

Complete All Button

On the Due and Overdue tab, a Complete All button at the top lets you mark all overdue tasks as done in one click. Use this when you have done a general garden maintenance session and want to clear the backlog quickly.

Filtering Tasks

Use the filter controls above the task list to narrow down by:

  • Task type — show only Watering tasks, or only Fertilizing, etc.
  • Garden block — focus on one section of the garden (e.g., Block 1 or 5-Gal Bags)
  • Plant — see all tasks for a specific plant variety

How Tasks Are Linked to Plantings

Each task record contains a link back to its source planting. Click the planting name on any task to jump directly to that planting's Details page, where you can check on status, notes, and any companion warnings.

Tip: On busy days when you can only tend part of the garden, use the block filter to focus your Tasks view on just the beds you are visiting. Complete the visible tasks, then return to the full view later.
